What’s Yours Is Now Mine

This house was yours

Now it lulls me to bed

Through sleepless, dream-filled nights

and lazy, sun-soaked days.

This house was yours

Now it’s mine to keep warm

Against the pounding rain

Or tempestuous setting sun.

This house was yours

But I don’t see anything left behind

Not a hairbrush or stray shoe scuff

No keychain or secret note passed.

This house was yours

Now it’s my turn to tell

Stories and poems and sing songs about the rain

Cook those meals I always planned.

This house was yours

Now it is mine

To keep and hold safe

Till we feel it’s time.
