What Makes You Beautiful?
I was having lunch with a friend and was suddenly struck by a complete sense of awe for how effortlessly she had tied her hair back, and how stunning it made her look. It was perfectly messy and just looked so chic on her. I saw her retie it at some point at realised she had done this completely by accident, but even on her 2nd attempt, it was lovely.
The more I get to know someone, the more I’m able to notice these little, beautiful details about them and I love it. From the way someone flips their hair to the curve of someone else’s eyebrow when they are curious — I think everyone has something that makes them so effortlessly beautiful. I am very aware of the fact that the more you see someone, the more attractive you might think they are.
One study found that the more that someone was shown a face, the more attracted they were to it. The brains of the participants were scanned for electrical activity and the pattern was backed up — the more times people saw faces, the more brain wave activity associated with excitement took place. So I’m not sure if it’s just that as I get to know someone, I have more time to notice the small things about them, but it has made me realise that everyone has beauty to them.
We all see ourselves in such different ways, that I would hope someone sees things I would overlook in myself and it’s likely this is true of the people around you. It may not be conventional or stop me in my tracks at first sight, but there is something so uniquely special about the women in my life and I’m so glad to be able to appreciate that, even if I’m the only one that sees it. So take a moment today to tell someone how incredible you think they are, how beautiful they are or just how good they make you feel. It will be the favourite part of their day.
